Amber Bates is a freelance dancer and yoga teacher originally from Atlanta, Georgia. She received a majority of her dance training at Atlanta Ballet’s Center for Dance Education under John McFall and Sharon Story. Other training was conducted with Nashville Ballet, Orlando Ballet, Boston Ballet, and American Ballet Theatre.
Amber began her professional career in 2012 with the Atlanta Ballet as a second company member and then went on to dance with Columbia City Ballet, Ballet Memphis, and Ballethnic Dance Company. Following the urge to expand artistically and stylistically Amber started freelancing in the Atlanta area where she was able to explore more contemporary movement, improvisation, and tap into her innate need for curiosity and change. Amber enjoyed working with Atlanta based companies such a Fly on a Wall and Staibdance. She even had the opportunity to work on film and tv thanks to MSA South and Netflix.
As a teacher, Amber aspires to inspire through demonstration, positivity, and nurturing the need to move and explore the bodies potential. Amber is also a certified yoga teacher and incorporates breathing and mindfulness techniques into her dance classes.
Although a seasoned professional dancer, Amber loves to continue her own dance education and has thus conducted workshops with BodyTraffic, Ate9’s Danielle Agami, and most recently NW Dance Project’s LAUNCH Program. She is thrilled to join NW Dance Project as a youth teacher to help shape the next generation of dance artists.
