Thorey Mountain

Thorey Mountain danced professionally in London for many years, appearing in the original West End productions of Applause, which starred Lauren Bacall, Pippin, and A Chorus Line. She was a member of the Sadler’s Wells Opera Movement Group and Matt Mattox’s Jazzart company and her numerous television and film credits include The Slipper and the Rose, starring Richard Chamberlain. She has worked with many renowned choreographers, notably Michael Bennett, Bob Fosse, Marc Breaux, and Ron Field.

Thorey spent sixteen years as Director of Jazz Dance at two of the foremost vocational classical ballet schools in the UK: Elmhurst School for Dance in Association with Birmingham Royal Ballet and The Dance School of Scotland. She was also a specialist tutor of classic jazz dance at London Studio Centre, one of the leading performing arts colleges in the country. Thorey was a tap coach for the West End production of Billy Elliot and, as a freelance choreographer, has worked in England and Scotland, in Sweden and the USA.

Thorey holds a BA Honors in Theatre Dance (Dance Education) from University of the Arts London and an MPhil in Educational Studies from the University of Birmingham in the UK. She is a Royal Academy of Dance certified teacher.

Thorey is currently teaching jazz dance in the JAG (Junior Artist Generator) elite training program at BodyVox in Portland, Oregon, and recently worked as a guest master teacher at Pacific University. She was also a guest choreographer for Pacific Dance Ensemble’s spring dance concert 2016 and the JAG annual performance in 2017. She gives classic jazz dance workshops at BodyVox, and teaches tap dance at Polaris Dance Theatre and at June Taylor’s School of Dance.
