Portland Business Journal turned its focus to founding Artistic Director Sarah Slipper and how she has lead and successfully grown NW Dance Project, noting “Sarah Slipper founded NW Dance Project in 2004. Since then, the company’s annual budget has grown from $30,000 to $1.8 million. Not only has the company allowed her to push her artistic boundaries — it has produced more than 300 contemporary dance works to date — it has tested her acumen. The entire staff, dancers included, are full-time employees with benefits. This allows dancers to focus their creative energy on the projects at hand, rather than worrying how they’re going to pay the bills.”
